Ruby M. Engrav, 93, of Decorah, Iowa, died Tuesday, August 30, 2005 at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at Decorah Lutheran Church by Rev. James Glesne and Rev. Bryan Robertson. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Waukon, Iowa.
Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Monday, September 5, 2005 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and from 10:00-11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the church.
Ruby Martha Engrav was born July 1, 1912 on the family farm in Allamakee County, near Waukon, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Clara (Christensen) Olson. She was baptized at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church by Pastor Fjelde. She was confirmed on October 24, 1926 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon by Rev. William Rasmussen. In 1919, Ruby and her family moved to Waukon. She graduated from Waukon High School with the Class of 1930.
She was united in marriage to Henry Engrav on October 17, 1936 in the parsonage of Decorah Lutheran Church by Rev. Ole Glesne. To this union three children were born: Doris, Helen and Loren.
The couple made their home in Waukon and later in Postville. In 1950, the family moved to Decorah. They became members of Decorah Lutheran Church. Ruby enjoyed teaching Sunday school, vacation bible school and participating in the women’s organization at the church. She was an avid reader.
Ruby died Tuesday, August 30, 2005 at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, following a brief illness at the age of 93 years.
Survivors include a son, Loren and his wife Candace Engrav of Bellevue, WA; a grandson, Peter Engrav and his wife Teresa of Seattle, WA.; a granddaughter, Rebecca Engrav and her husband Joon-Ho Yu of Seattle, WA.; two great-grandchildren, Charlotte Engrav and Hope Yu; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Bernice Engrav of Lewiston, MN, Henriette Engrav of Rushford, MN, Emma (Melvin) Anderson of Waukon, IA, Clarence Engrav and Forrest Engrav, both of Mabel, MN; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Henry in March 28, 1996; two daughters, Doris Mae in 1939 at the age of 9 months and Helen Elaine in 1944 at the age of 4 years; a sister, Amy Fossum in 2004; and her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Helen Engrav, Erna and Halvor Engrav, Marie and Melvin Helgemoe, Irene and Arnold Bakkum, Edna and Juel Moe, Esther and Raymond Jahr, Judith and Lawrence Engrav, Cora and Carl Christensen, Lloyd Engrav and Leonard Engrav.
