Raymond Styve, (pronounced Stevie) age 90 of Alexandria, Minnesota, formerly of Decorah, IA, died on Friday, January 28, 2005 at the Knute Nelson Home in Alexandria, MN following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 2, 2005 at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, Iowa with Rev. Gary Krapfl of St. Benedict’s Church officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Fort Atkinson, Iowa.

Friends may call on Wednesday morning after 11:00 a.m. at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home.

Raymond Milton Styve was born on July 7, 1914 the son of Bernhard and Johanne Randine (Rude) Styve in Decorah, Iowa. Raymond graduated from Decorah High School. Ray married Beatrice Magdalene Swehla on November 12, 1936 in Decorah. Ray worked for Sugar Bowl Ice Cream and then Borden Ice Cream as a freezer man and route driver for thirty-five years, retiring in 1971. After retirement, he worked for Lang’s Dairy Equipment for ten years. Ray lived all of his life in Decorah, except for two years that he was in Mason City with Borden’s Ice Cream. Ray bowled for many years on a league and pitched horseshoes and was an avid fisherman. Ray served in the CC Camp during the Depression. After the death of his wife, Bea, he moved to Alexandria, MN in 1995 to be near family. In March of 2003, Ray became a resident of the Knute Nelson Home following an illness.

Raymond’s survivors include one son, Darrell Styve & wife Judy, Alexandria, MN. Three grandsons: Bryan Styve & wife Sue, Nevis, MN; Cris Styve & wife Joanne, Fergus Falls, MN and Lee Styve, Alexandria, MN. Two great grandchildren: Rachel and Michael Styve, Fergus Falls, MN. Two brothers: Reuben Styve and Peter Styve & wife Hazel, both of Decorah, IA and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
