Edgar M. Stinson, age 102, of Decorah, IA, died Wednesday morning, April 27, 2011 at Aase Haugen Home in Decorah.

Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Monday, May 2, 2011 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah with Rev. Richard Simon Hanson officiating. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Monday at Fjelstul Funeral Home one hour prior to the service.

Edgar Melvin Stinson was born March 27, 1909 in Winneshiek County, Iowa, the son of Frank and Florence (Dinger) Stinson. He was baptized and confirmed in Pleasant Township. He attended rural school in Pleasant Township and then Barber School in Estherville, IA.

Edgar was united in marriage to Bernice Josephine Steine on August 25, 1935 in Decorah. This union was blessed with two daughters: Darlene and Arlys.

Edgar worked as a barber in Estherville, McGregor and then Decorah. He owned and operated Stinson Barber Shop in Decorah for 33 years.

Edgar was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and trapping and fishing near his cabin on the Mississippi. He also enjoyed dancing, particularly waltzing. He was a member of the Sunrise Club and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

Edgar was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Florence Stinson; his wife, Bernice on February 12, 1986; three half brothers: Raymond in WWII, Robert, and Milton; and two half sisters: Mae and Dorothy.

Edgar is survived by his two daughters: Darlene (Ronald) Makin of Bella Vista, AR and Arlys (Steve) Kaune of Hazleton, IA; three grandchildren: Rebecca Ferris of Kennesaw, GA, Jeffrey (Malinda) Makin of Broken Arrow, OK, Michael (Tina) Kaune of Sumner, IA; five great-grandchildren: Paityn Kaune of Sumner, IA, Leslie, Lindsay and Leah Ferris of Kennesaw, GA, Madison Makin of Broken Arrow, OK; one step great-grandson, Blake Kruse of Sumner, IA; and by his half sister, LeVerne Rogen of Cedar Rapids, IA.

Memorials may be made to the Aase Haugen Home, 4 Ohio Street, Decorah, IA 52101.
