Ellen Stinson, age 83, of Cresco, Iowa, died on Wednesday, November 21, 2007, at the Howard County Regional Health Services in Cresco, Iowa, following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 24, 2007, at the Cresco Community Chapel in Cresco, Iowa, with Rev. Mike Simiele officiating. Burial will be in the Ridgeway United Lutheran Cemetery, Ridgeway, IA.

Friends may call after 9:00 a.m. at the church on Saturday morning.

Ellen’s survivors include her two sons: Richard (Kim) Stinson, Ridgeway, IA and Clayton (DeeAnn) Stinson, Bozeman, MT. Two daughters: Sandra (Carmen) Reinertson, Ft. Doge, IA and Lynnette (Mark) Dagley, Center, ND.

Funeral services for Ellen F. Stinson of Cresco, IA were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 24, 2007 at the Cresco Community Chapel in Cresco, IA with Pastor Mike Simiele officiating. Pianist was Mary Steen, soloist was Dorette Fravel, and songleader was Milo Mettler. Songs sung were: "Until Then", "It is Well with My Soul", "The Old Rugged Cross", and "How Great Thou Art". Pallbearers were: Eric Jelleum, Andy Stinson, Lyle Stinson,Mark Dagley, Carmen Reinerston, and Ordell Stinson. Interment was in Ridgeway United Lutheran Cemetery in Ridgeway, IA.

Schluter-Balik Funeral Home in Decorah,IA handled the arrangements.

Ellen, 83, died Wednesday November 21, 2007 at the Howard County Regional Health Services in Cresco, IA, following a brief illness.

Ellen Francis Stinson was born August 10, 1924, one of 12 children, the daughter of William and Ida (Ofstedahl) Betts on the home farm near Ridgeway, IA. Ellen attended country school near the farm and then graduated from Ridgeway High School. During World War II, Ellen and her two sisters, Mildred and Margaret, helped build the P38 Bombers in California. She returned to Ridgeway. On February 14, 1946 she married Maynard Stinson at the Orleans Lutheran Church. They farmed near Ridgeway, until they retired in 1987 and moved to Cresco.

Ellen enjoyed gardening, canning, reading her bible and being together with her family. Ellen was a member of the Cresco Community Chapel and the Gideons.

She is survived by two sons: Richard (Kim) Stinson of Ridgeway, IA and Clayton (DeeAnn) Stinson of Bozeman, MT; two daughters: Sandra (Carmen) Reinertson of Ft. Dodge, IA and Lynnette (Mark) Dagley of Center, ND; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Mildred Hall of Lincoln,NE, Angeline Greenwood of Fridley, MN, and Betty (art) Maley of Rochester, MN. two brothers: Edwin Betts of Agoura, CA and Charles Betts of Lanesboro, MN.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents: William and Ida Betts; her husband : Maynard in 1994; four sisters: Marguerite Bishop, Delores Knutson, Beatrice Hovey, and Katherine "Kay" Stinson; and two brothers: Vern Betts and Donald Betts.
