Lorraine Schrandt, age 92, of Festina, IA, died on Sunday, November 21, 2010, at the Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian, IA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 27, 2010, at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Festina, IA, with Msgr. Cletus Hawes presiding. Burial will be in church cemetery. The Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel in Calmar in is in charge of arrangements.

Friends may call from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m., on Friday and until 10:30 a.m., Saturday morning at the Festina Parish Center in Festina (2351 County Road B32, Fort Atkinson, IA). There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

Lorraine Johanna (Einck) Schrandt, was born on July 15, 1918, the daughter of Joseph and Catherine (Huinker) Einck near Festina, IA. Lorraine married Hugo “Ole” Schrandt on June 5, 1946, at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Festina. Together they farmed near Festina for thirty years, before moving into their home in Festina in 1976. Lorraine was a tireless, creative wife and mother and a loyal and cherished friend to many. She was a true homemaker. Her interests were broad and she was always eager to take on a challenge. Some of the things she took on were: planting a new vegetable every year, cake decorating, fishing, painting ceramics, china painting, mushroom hunting, rosemaling, crocheting, embroidery, playing first base, tailoring, genealogy, taping drywall, refinishing furniture, being a 4-H leader and quilting. Lorraine made at least one quilt for each of her children and grandchildren as well as joining the ladies in the church to make quilts for raffles. Lorraine was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church; serving as president of the Rosary Society, choir member and sacristan. She was a member of the Halverson – Giesen American Legion Auxiliary. As well, she always contributed her delicious cooking and baking to the many church events. Lorraine has resided at the Ossian Senior Hospice since 2005.

Lorraine is survived by her husband: Hugo “Ole” Schrandt, Festina, IA. One daughter: Connie Schrandt, Minneapolis, MN. Three sons: Dave (Barb) Schrandt, Chaska, MN; Marvin (Michelle) Schrandt, St. Charles, MN; and Jim (Susan) Schrandt, Sutherlin, OR. Seven grandchildren: Brian (Stephanie) Schrandt, Tony Schrandt, Jeff (Sarah) Schrandt, Brad (Shelley) Schrandt, Jon Schrandt, Kerstin (Junior Reynosa) Schrandt and Eric Parr. Seven great grandchildren: Grace & Callie Schrandt, Javier & Damian Reynosa, Parker & Sullivan Schrandt and Stella Schrandt. One brother: Leo “Pat” (Bernice) Einck, Cedar Falls, IA. Two brothers-in-law: Dale Ott, Festina, IA and Ted (Edna) Schrandt, Decorah, IA. Six sisters-in-law: Rita Lou Einck, Waterloo, IA; Frieda Einck, Decorah, IA; Frieda Hartman, Riceville, IA; Della Walz, Sequim, WA; Eunice Krause, Dallas, OR; and Norma Schrandt, Cedar Falls, IA, along with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents: Joseph and Catherine (Huinker) Einck. An infant son: Joseph in 1954. Five brothers: Edwin (Irene) Einck, Herb Einck, Jerome Einck, Leander (Adella) Einck, and LeRoy (Deanna) Einck. Two sisters: Rose (Loren) Natham and Helen Ott. Four brothers-in-law: Walter (Orpha) Schrandt, Herb (Florence) Schrandt, Tom (Florence) Schrandt, and Bill Schrandt. Two sisters-in-law: Wilma (Lawrence) Schlee and Anne (Bill) Wagner.
