Final Rites Held For Mrs. Bachelder
Funeral services for Bertha (Osmundson) Bachelder were held last Friday afternoon at Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia at 2 p.m. Rev. LaVerne R. Meinecke officiated.
Bertha (Osmundson) Bachelder was born on October 17, 1868 on a farm southeast of Ossian. She was the daughter of Orm and Ellen Osmundson. She received her elementary schooling near her home. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She was the oldest of 11 children in the family.
The departed was united in marriage with John P. Bachelder on December 22, 1892. They lived on a farm near Castalia for the next 7 years and then moved to Castalia where she lived the rest of her life. Sorrow came to the home in 1925 at the death of their son George. Mr. Bachelder passed away in 1937 and since that time she has lived for the most part with her son Earl of Castalia.
A few months ago she met with an accident in falling but rallied. On Sunday, October 19, she fell again and fractured her hip in three places. She was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital at New Hampton where she passed away from shock on Tuesday, October 21. She was 84 years and 4 days old.
She leaves to mourn her passing: one son, Earl (Hattie) Bachelder of Castalia; 3 grandchildren: Mrs. Bernice Koenig, Mrs. Orville Koenig and George (serving with the armed forces on the way to the far east); 3 great grandchildren, Sally, Mark and Steven Koenig. She was preceded in death by her husband, her son George, her parents and all of her brothers and sisters. Many memorials were given in her memory.
