Bruce Carlson officiating. Burial was at the Worthington Cemetery. Visitation was from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, May 16, at Benson Funeral Home, in Worthington.

Ruth was born July 30, 1922, in Victor, to Reverend William and Emma (Ansorge) Ullerich. She was the middle child of five (two brothers and two sisters). At the age of three her family moved to a parish in Van Horne, approximately 30 miles west of Cedar Rapids. Ruth attended grade school and high school there and graduated valedictorian of her senior class. She then went to the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls and graduated with a B.A. degree, majoring in home economics with a minor in English.

Ruth married Kenneth Arthur Hein May 19, 1946, in Fairbank. She taught in a private school in Long Beach, Calif. for two years while Ken was stationed there in the Navy. Following their move back to the Midwest she taught for six years in Fairbank and Brandon. Her final 20 teaching years were spent in Decorah – teaching tenth grade English, communication skills and creative writing classes. While in Decorah she returned to UNI summers and obtained her masters degree in English.

Taking early retirement, Ruth started writing and researching ghost stories. In 1988 she and her husband Ken moved to Worthington, Minn. to be close to one of their daughters. She continued to research, gather and have published more ghost story books. In all, she had eight ghost books, one book of poems and a book on the history of the Graham Lakes area published.

For 14 years she also researched and wrote the Reminiscing column for the Daily Globe in Worthington. For the past six weeks, Ruth was a resident of the Crossroads Care Center, with Compassionate Care Hospice assisting.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 65 years, Ken, and their four children: Pat (Rolf) Wangberg of Rochester, Minn., Mike (Gabi) of Gainesville, Fla., Ted (Brigitte) of Minneapolis, Minn. and Dea (Wayne) Klumper of Worthington; 13 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Adella Mathers, of Hereford, Texas and a brother, Waldo (Margie) Ullerich, of Kahului, Hawaii.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. William and Emma Ullerich; a brother, Victor Ullerich; and a sister, Lois Zeitz.
