Harold was born June 23, 1921 in Wilmington Twp., Houston Co., Minnesota to Julius and Inga (Almaasbak) Rollie. He attended school in Hesper, Iowa and Minneapolis, Minnesota. On April 3, 1941 he enlisted in the United States Army where he was a truck driver. He served three years overseas including Iceland, England, Ireland, France, and Germany. For seven months he was a Prisoner Of War near Mooseburg, Germany. On October 12, 1946 he married Norma Burmaster in Spring Grove, Minnesota. They lived in Hesper, Iowa for 52 years. Harold worked for two service stations, Redwing Brothers Chevrolet, and for several years at Larson Hardware in Mabel. He was a member of the Hesper Lutheran Church, and a life member of both the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, and stockcar racing.
Harold passed away Saturday, November 1, 2008 at the Maple Manor Nursing Home in Rochester at the age of 87.
Harold is survived by his wife Norma of Rochester; two sons Dennis (Sharon) of Rochester and Neil (Colleen) of Tomball, Texas; two daughters Sandy Nelson of Hastings, Minnesota and Linda (Ken) Rasmussen of Blaine, Minnesota; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and a sister Margaret (Duane) McKenna of Rochester. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter Debra; one brother; and four sisters.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at the Hesper Lutheran Church in Hesper, Iowa with the Rev. Matt Larson, officiating. Burial will be in the Hesper Lutheran Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation will be from 4 – 7 Monday, November 3rd at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and one hour prior to services at the church.
