Robert “Bob” R. Klisart, 87, of Ossian, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2012 at the Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian. Bob was born September 20, 1924 in Ossian, the son of Herbert and Catherine (Lansing) Klisart. He graduated from St. Francis De Sales High School, Ossian, in 1942.
Bob was united in marriage with Irene D. Torkelson on November 19, 1946 at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on May 21, 2009. Bob started working as a drayman and milk hauler. He then owned and operated Klisart Coolers, selling dairy equipment. After his retirement, he and Irene worked as custodians at the Ossian State Bank for several years.
Bob was a lifelong member of St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church and the Rosary Society, in Ossian. He served on the Ossian Fire Department as a fireman and as fire chief. Bob loved to fish and trap. He enjoyed taking his family on picnics and on car rides around the countryside. He loved to go out for ice cream and tending to his neighbor’s geese.
Bob is survived by his two daughters, Shirley (Steve) Robinson of Hampton, Iowa, and Nancy (Dale) Schwickerath of Newton, Iowa; five grandsons, Rob (Megan) Robinson of West Des Moines, Iowa, Randy Robinson of Hampton, Iowa, Patrick (Kristin) Schwickerath of North Liberty, Iowa, Chad (Lynsey) Schwickerath of Grimes, Iowa, and Ryan (Tammi) Schwickerath of Ankeny, Iowa; four great grandchildren, CiAnne, Miley, and Zander Robinson and Parker Schwickerath and several nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Irene; an infant son, Richard; his parents; one brother, Harold Klisart; and one sister, Bernice Bengfort.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 14, 2012, from 5 - 8 pm at the Schmitz Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Ossian, Iowa, and one hour before services at the church on Tuesday. There will be a 5:30 pm Rosary Service at the funeral home on Monday.
Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at 11:00 am at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian, Iowa. Monsignor Cletus Hawes will be the celebrant.
Interment will be held at the St. Francis de Sales Cemetery following the mass.
Schmitz Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Ossian, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
