Marjorie Mary Lansing, 94, Ossian, Iowa, died Friday, April 13, 2012, at Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian, where she has lived since 2005.

Marjorie was born on November 13, 1917 to Frank and Irene (Finnegan) Schwinefus in rural Ossian. She graduated from St. Francis de Sales School in Ossian and then graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing (affiliated with De Paul University) in Chicago, Illinois in June of 1939.

Marjorie married Philip Lansing on September 1, 1941, and to this union two daughters were born, Marilyn and Maureen. Marjorie stayed home and raised their daughters until the mid 50’s. She then returned to the nursing profession, working part-time at Decorah Memorial Hospital. Many commented on what a compassionate nurse she was and her concern for others carried on when she resided at the Hospice. She retired from nursing when her husband retired in 1976. Marjorie was a lifetime member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and an honorary member of the Rosary Society.

She and Phil enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Canada. She loved to play cards and played in a bridge club for many years. She also taught her grandchildren how to play cards.

Marjorie is survived by her daughters; Marilyn (Tom) Cook of Robins, Iowa and Maureen Wong of Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Canada, six grandchildren; Christine (Charles) Hallier, Daniel (Denise) Cook, Renee (Tim) Schnell, Patrick (Leigh) Cook, Brian Wong and Laura Wong, twelve great-grandchildren; Aaron and Spencer Schmidt, Andrea, Danielle and Collin Hallier, Keegan, Danielle and Kaleb Cook, Lynzy and Quinton Schnell and Ayda and Lola Cook. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Phil, her parents, two sisters; Marion Cunnane and Audrey Welby and brother, John.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 15, 2012, from 2-7 pm at the Schmitz Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Ossian, Iowa, where there will be a scripture service at 2 pm. Visitation will also be held one hour before mass time at the church on Monday.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 4 pm, Monday, April 16, 2012, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian, Iowa. Monsignor Cletus Hawes will be the celebrant.

Burial will follow in the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Cemetery in Ossian, Iowa.

Schmitz Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Ossian, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
