Steven D. Henning, 40, Ossian, Iowa, died, Thursday, June 7, 2012, at Winneshiek Medical Center, Decorah, Iowa. Steven Douglas Henning was born June 22, 1971 in Decorah, Iowa to Robert and Dorothy (Cooper) Henning. He was baptized, confirmed, and was a lifelong member of the Ossian Lutheran Church, Ossian, Iowa. Steve graduated from South Winneshiek High School in 1989 and the NICC construction program in May of 2005.

Steve was united in marriage to Stacy Strauss on March 19, 1994 at the Ossian Lutheran Church. To this union five children were born. Steve worked for Voltmer Electric installing road signs and lighting. Because of his illness he retired in August of 2011. He enjoyed spending time with his kids, fishing, camping, he loved to cook and he loved to build things. Steve was a member of the Ossian Fire Department and he helped with Sunday School.

Steve is survived by his wife, Stacy, of Ossian; five children, Judith, Erica, Joseph, Steven Daniel and Megan Henning all of Ossian; his parents, Robert and Dorothy Henning of Ossian; eight brothers and sisters, Barbara (Doug) Fairchild of Elk River, Minnesota, Randal (Denise) Henning of Elgin, Daniel (Sharon) Henning of Calmar, James (Diane) Henning of Ossian, Diane (Robert) Martin of Holmen, Wisconsin, Karen (Dale) Bucheit of McGregor, Karla (Ken) Buchheit of Ossian and David (Sandra) Henning of Wellsburg, Iowa; his father and mother-in-law, Brent and Judy Waits of Quasqueton, Iowa, his father and mother-in-law, Michael and Sharlene Strauss of West Allis, Wisconsin; brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael Strauss Jr. of Las Vegas, Nevada, William Strauss of Decorah, Cheryl Strauss of Burlington, Iowa, and Constance and Amber Strauss of West Allis, Wisconsin; many Uncles, Aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins.

Steve was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Theodore and Emma Henning; his maternal grandparents, Harmon and Marion Cooper; and one nephew, Clayton Michael Henning.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2012, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Ossian Lutheran Church, Ossian, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2012, at 1:00 pm at the Ossian Lutheran Church in Ossian, Iowa.

Burial will follow in the Hillside Cemetery in Ossian, Iowa.
