Edward Bouska, age 91 of rural Protivin, IA died Saturday May 16, 2009 at his home after a short illness.

Memorial Mass will be Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin, by Rev. David Beckman. Following Ed’s wishes his body was donated to the Mayo Foundation.

Visitation will be on Monday May 18, 2009 at the Protivin Community Center in Protivin, IA from 4:00 –7:00 p.m. with the scripture service at 4:30. Balik Funeral Home in Spillville is in charge of arrangements.

Edward F. Bouska, son of John A. and Agnes (Sazma) Bouska was born June 26, 1917 on the family farm located in Jackson Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa. He attended Holy Trinity School and Rudolphinum High School in Protivin and Iowa State University in Ames. Ed married Elmarie Novak on February 24, 1941 at Holy Trinity Church in Protivin and raised seven children: Jack, Mary Jane (deceased), Sally, Ann, Margaret (Peg), Allan (deceased) and Carol. Grandchildren include Les, Lynn, Paul (Jack & June Bouska), Tess (Mary Jane Bouska), Kate, Mary & Jen McCoy (Sally & Tom McCoy). There are six great-grandchildren.

Edward and Elmarie were leaders in their Church and NE Iowa Communities. Ed loved reading and kept current on local and world events.

Edward died Saturday, May 16, 2009 in his home surrounded by his loving wife of 68 years, children and grandchildren, continuing to share his wisdom through his final moments, dying 10 feet from where he was born. His body was donated to Mayo Clinic for medical education, per his request.

Ed requested memorials be contributed to Catholic Charities Dubuque, 1299 Mt. Loretta Ave, Dubuque, IA 52003 or Winneshiek County Hospice 901 Montgomery St. Decorah, IA 52101.

Ed’s survivor’s are his wife Elmarie, rural Protivin; one son Jack Bouska of Bainbridge, GA; four daughters: Sally McCoy, Madison, WI; Peg Bouska, Iowa City, IA; Carol Bouska, Minneapolis, MN; Ann Bouska Novak, Mount Vernon, WA; one sister, Helen Balik, Spillville, IA.
