Ransome Bolson, age 92, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Friday, October 15, 2010, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 19, 2010, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Decorah, with Rev. Richard Simon Hanson presiding. Burial will be in the Union Prairie Cemetery, Decorah, IA.

Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m., on Monday, October 18, 2010, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah and after 10:00 a.m., at the church on Tuesday morning.

Ransome Lawrence Bolson was born on August 4, 1918, the son of Lawrence Carlyle and Violet Minnie Bertha (Young) Bolson on the Bolson family farm on Clay Hill Road, rural Decorah,. He was baptized on Sept. 1, 1918, at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Locust and was confirmed on June 4, 1933 at the Decorah Lutheran Church. Ransome graduated from Decorah High School in 1936. He attended Luther College and helped his father in the poultry business, where he managed the Bolson Oak View Poultry farm until he retired. Ransome married Connie Hexom, on July 12, 1943, at the Big Canoe Lutheran Church by Connie’s father Rev. William T. Hexom. Ransome drove school bus for almost fifteen years for Decorah Schools and then for North Winn Schools. Over the years, Ransome enjoyed all high school and college sports. Ransome was an active member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, where he was one of the charter members.

Ransome is survived by his wife: Connie. One daughter: Cheryl, Ottumwa, IA. Four sons: Daryl (Christine) Bolson, Lansing, IA; Joeyl, Decorah; Terry, Des Moines, IA and Loryl, Decorah. Five grandchildren: Christopher Bergan, Iowa City, IA, Jennifer (Max) Lamb, Cedar Falls, IA, Brett Bolson, Lansing, IA, Anna (fiancé, Dustin Darling) Bolson, Cedar Rapids, IA, and Matthew Wisher, Ridgeway, IA. Seven great grandchildren: Brooke (Lawrence) Lim, Bradley Bergan, Ryan (Christy) Lamb, Alexandra Lamb, Elliot Lamb, Jay Nissen and Mason Darling. One sister: Vernetta Cline, Decorah, IA. One brother: Marlin (Syvilla) Bolson, Five brothers and sisters-in-law: Audrey (Erling) Jordahl, Ankeny, IA; Eunice (Wilbur) Stoen, Decorah; David Hexom, Fridley, MN; Charles (Arlys) Hexom, Decorah, IA and Paul Hexom, Decorah. One aunt: Luella Young, Decorah, along with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Ransome was preceded in death by his parents: L.C. and Violet Bolson. His father and mother-in-law: Rev. William T. and Charlotte (Larson) Hexom. One brother-in-law: Robert Cline. Two sisters-in-law: Ann Hexom and Carol Hexom.
