Joyce Baumler, 68, died Thursday, April 7, 2011 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn., from respiratory failure. The funeral Mass was 10 a.m. Monday, April 11, at Church of the Resurrection Catholic Church in Rochester, Minn., with the Rev. Shawn Haremza officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation was Sunday, April 10, from 4 until 7 p.m. at the original Macken Funeral Home building with a 7 p.m. prayer service. There also was a one-hour visitation prior to the service at the church Monday. Memorials are suggested to the Gift of Life Transplant House. Joyce Marie Carolan was born Nov. 14, 1942 in Decorah, to James and Esther (Hanlon) Carolan. She attended rural grade schools in the Decorah area, and graduated in 1960 from Decorah High School. On Aug. 7, 1962, she married Floyd Baumler in Decorah. She was a day care provider for many years. Joyce enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, crocheting and listening to the Minnesota Twins.

Survivors include her husband, Floyd; four children: Lynn (Karl) Ladin of Rochester, Cynthia (Mark) Schmidt of Rochester, Allan (Peggy) Baumler of La Crosse, Wis., Jeffrey (Cindy) Baumler of Savage; 10 grandchildren: Eric, Michael, Matthew Ladin, Zachary Schmidt, Joseph, Megan, James, Jonathan Baumler, Elizabeth and Grace Baumler; two brothers, Leo (Betty) Carolan of Spokane, Wash. and James (Robin) Carolan of Keosauqua.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Robert and Howard Carolan.
