Romeo Padden Passes at Iowa City Hospital

Romeo Padden, the son of Azenith and Henrietta Youmans-Padden, was born near Simcoe, Ontario, Canada, August 27, 1859, and passed away at the University hospital at Iowa City, March 4, 1935, age 75 years, six months and five days.

He came with his parents to Iowa in 1861, and resided in Winneshiek county, Iowa, till 1876 when they moved to Pottawattamie county, Iowa. Here he grew to manhood and on April 8, 1885, was married to Miss Letta Miller of Winneshiek county.

To this union were born three children, Francis of Frankville, Herbert of Waterloo and Mrs. Lydia Jones of Chicago, Ill., who with the wife are left to mourn the passing of a husband and father.

He is also survived by one brother, W. E. Padden of Frankville; and three grandsons: Oscar of Frankville, Lyle of Waterloo and Richard Jones of Chicago, Ill.

The deceased has been a resident of Frankville for more than 45 years and will be greatly missed by his friends and neighbors.

The funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon from the Community church, the Rev. R. F. Galloway of Postville officiating. Interment was made in the village cemetery.

Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jones and son Richard of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Padden, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Padden and Will Beebe of Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Miller and grandson, Charles Goltz, of Decorah; Mrs. Norman Vick of Calmar; Mrs. Edward Norman and daughter Hazel of Decorah; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Ferris of Mason City; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Ferris and daughter Charlotte of Lansing; Dan Ferris of Harpers Ferry.
