Dean A. Womeldorf, 61, of Decorah, died suddenly Friday, March 4, 2011 at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah. A visitation is 4 until 7 today (Thursday, March 10), at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah. Friends may sign Dean's guest book or send condolences online at vvvvw.fjelstul.com.
Dean Alan Womeldorf was born May 18, 1949 in Decorah, the son of Walter and Eleanor (Vick) Womeldorf.
He married Cynthia Le Cowell on March 7, 1970 at Decorah Lutheran Church. They were blessed with two children, Jennifer Lynn and Daniel Jacob.
Dean studied history and math, and graduated from Iowa State University with a teaching degree. He worked at Camcar Textron (now infastech) in Decorah for many years and recently returned to work there. In 2000, Dean and Cindy formed Midwest Conference Services, and worked side-by-side to provide registration services for events including the Nobel Peace Prize Forum.
As an avid reader, Dean read all kinds of books, including books on home building and energy conservation. Dreams of building a home developed from that reading and he and Cindy, along with his father Walter and his brother Jim, built the family's home. He continued to read a wide variety of books and had a great mind for trivia. He also enjoyed watching college football games especially if it was a good close game, gardening (except for the weeds), camping (except for bats) and always loved a good auction. More than anything, he loved being a Dad to their two children. He had a great sense of humor, was very compassionate, and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
Dean is survived by his wife, Cindy; his two children, Jen (Buck) Johnson of Anthem, Ariz, and Dan Womeldorf of Decorah; two brothers, Jim (Laurel) of Decorah and Wayne (Sue) of Tucson, Ariz.; two nephews, Brian (Paula) Womeldorf and family of Decorah, and David Womeldorf and family of Edina, Minn.; two nieces, Sarah (Jim) Ferguson and family of Bend, Ore., and Katie (Dave) Sherman and family of Tucson, Ariz.; a brother-in-law Vern (Stephanie) Cowell of Summersville, W.V.; three sisters-in-law: Susan (Sam) Tiberi of Columbus, Ohio; Vicky Willis (Dennis Filings) of Killeen, Texas and Angel (Chuck) Adams of The Villages, Fla.; and many more extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Eleanor.
