Julia "Judy" Amelia Snyder, 72, passed away at the Regional Health Services of Howard County in Cresco, Iowa Monday, March 7, 2011. Funeral services were Friday, March 11, at 1 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco. Burial was in the Union Prairie Cemetery in rural Decorah. Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco handled the arrangements.
Judy was born Sept. 27, 1938 in New Albion Township, to Nathan and Irene Thompson. She married her first true love, Gordon Barness in 1955. He passed away 1956. She later remarried.
She spent several years providing an emergency foster home for at risk children in Northeast Iowa. She also was a private daycare provider, raising several children as her own. She was an avid cook and baker, in various capacities, and also a private caterer. She spent years providing her own private meals on wheels to senior citizens in her neighborhood and throughout the Decorah and Cresco area.
She is survived by a daughter, Gordalana "Gordy" Neubauer of Cresco; four sons: Eric "Rick" (Kris) of Cedar Falls, Jeff of Decorah, Gary of Waukon and Scott (Lori) Erdmann; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Ernie (Linda) Thompson; along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her eldest son, Hank; a son-in-law, Todd Neubauer; and a sister, Karen (Robert Tangeman)
