Evelyn Lentz, 90, of Spillville, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011 at Wellington Place in Decorah. Mass of Christian burial was 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 8, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, with Rev. Donald Hawes officiating. Lector was Joan Lentz. Organist was Doris Thompson. Cantor was Dan Silhacek. Hymns (St. Wenceslaus Choir) were “Be Not Afraid,” “Gift of Finest Wheat,” “Amazing Grace,” “Goin Home” and “How Great Thou Art.” Offertory giftbearers were Patrick Lentz, Eric Lentz, Amy Oldham, Larry Mikota, Dave Ludwig and Stan Shevik. Interment was at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery, Spillville. Arrangements were handled by Balik Funeral Home, Spillville.

Evelyn Marie (Shimek) Lentz was born Dec. 19, 1920, the daughter of John and Mary (Baburek) Lentz [sic] on the family farm near Spillville. She attended country school in the area. She married William Lentz Oct. 14, 1947, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville. Together they farmed west of Spillville for many years. Evelyn enjoyed her farm animals, fishing and gardening. She was a lifetime member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Evelyn became a resident of Wellington Place Nursing Home Nov. 6, 2009.

Evelyn’s survivors include two sons, Tom (Becky) Lentz and Dan (Joan) Lentz both of rural Calmar, one daughter, Catherine (Bill) Woods. The Dalles, Ore.; three grandchildren: Patrick and Eric Lentz, and Amy (Leland) Oldham; two great grand-children, Parker and Nathan Oldham.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary (Baburek) Shimek; her husband, William Lentz, Feb. 21, 1999; three brothers: Jim, Frank and Paul Shimek; three sisters-in-law: Emma (Bill) Humpel, Caroline (Louis) Tupy and Mathilda Lentz.
