Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)A memorial mass for Donald "Donnie" W. Ondrashek, age 73, of Fort Atkinson, Iowa, was held on Tuesday, April 10 at St. John's Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson, Iowa with Rev. Nick March presiding. Burial was in the St. John's Catholic Church Cemetery.
Donald Wenceslaus Ondrashek was born on September 13, 1938, son of William and Stella (Pavlovec) Ondrashek near Fort Atkinson, Iowa. He graduated from the Fort Atkinson High School in 1956. Donnie married Nancy Flack on October 2, 1965 at St. John's Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson. Donnie drove truck for Meyer Brothers Construction, Holland Brothers, Henkel Construction, Spencer Construction, Bruening Construction, the city of Calmar and for Bob Humpal Auction Service. The last few years, Donnie worked as a groundskeeper at Northeast Iowa Community College in Calmar, Iowa. He enjoyed camping and visiting with family and friends. He served on the Fort Atkinson Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson.
Donald W. Ondrashek died on Thursday, April 8, 2012 at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Donald Ondrashek in infancy; 2 sisters, Agnes Shindelar on November 22, 2009 and her husband, Jerome Shindelar on November 14, 1993, and Adeline Mihm on February 8, 1989 and her husband, Art on April 20, 1993; 2 brothers-in-law, August Neuzil on November 30, 1978 and Ronald Schefert; and his father and mother-in-law, Leslie and Betty Flack.
Donald is survived by his wife, Nancy; 3 children: Dale (Lucinda Frandsen) Ondrashek of Balltown, Iowa, Michael (April Flett) Ondrashek of Decorah, Iowa, and Dawn Kraft of Fort Atkinson, Iowa; 8 grandchildren, Samantha Ondrashek, Cory Ondrashek, Zack Ondrachek, Charles Kirkpatrick, Mercedes Frandsen, Sierra Frandsen, Damian Kraft, and Jennifer Kraft; 2 great grandchildren, Layla Kraft and Izabell Frandsen; 1 brother, Edward (Anna) Ondrashek of Spillville, Iowa, 1 sister, Dorothy Neuzil also of Spillville; 2 brothers-in-law, Terry (Jolene) Flack of Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, and Rodney (Julie) Flack of Clermont, Iowa; 3 sisters-in-law, Margaret Schefert of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Skyla (Scott) Vargason of Postville, Iowa, and Colleen Parkman of Richmond, Mississippi.
