Patrick Conway

A funeral mass for Patrick Conway was held Monday, October 1, 2001, at 10 a.m. in St. Bridget Catholic Church at Postville, Iowa. Father Paul Ouderkirk was the concelebrant. Bob Zwirlein was the Lector, with Dave and Mary Day as song leaders; Offertory Gift Bearers were Rosalie Ripperger, Mary O'Neill, and Ellen Zwirlein; Brad Conway was the Cross Bearer and Mass Servers were Blayke Conway and Brookelyn Conway. A Scripture Service was held on Sunday at 7 p.m. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Pleasant View Cemetery at Castalia, Iowa, with Military Honors and taps played by Betsy Koenig and Anne Straate.

Patrick Hugh Conway, the son of Hugh Francis and Alice Marie (Keman) Conway, was born December 25, 1945, at the hospital in Waukon, Iowa. He passed away Thursday, September 27, 2001 at his home in Winneshiek County, near Castalia, Iowa, at the age of 55 years, nine months, and two days.

He attended the Lafayette Country School and graduated from St. George High School at Lansing, Iowa. He served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War.

On April 19, 1969 he was married to Sally Marie Koenig in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Wexford, near Harpers Ferry, Iowa. To this union five children were born. In 1971 they moved to a farm in Bloomfield Township, Winneshiek County, near Castalia, Iowa. Pat enjoyed farming and spending time with his family. He was a quiet, hard working, humble man who put the needs of his family before his own.

He is preceded in death by his father, Hugh Conway, two brothers, Joseph Conway and wife, Josie, and Leo Conway, his father-in-law, Orville Koenig and a brother-in-law, Mark Koenig.

Surviving are his wife, Sally, his children, Scott (Marie) Conway of Bettendorf, IA, Brian (Stacy) Conway of Center Point, IA, Todd Conway of Ames, IA, Sara (Sergio) Calderon of Hiawatha, IA, Kristi Conway of Cedar Falls, IA; 4 grandchildren, Bianca and Cristian Calderon, Rylie Conway and Mary Conway; his mother, Alice Conway of Harpers Ferry, IA; 6 brothers, James (Sonja) Conway, Daniel Conway, all of Lansing, IA, Hugh (Lana) Conway of Fayetteville, AR, Michael (Lois) Conway, John Conway, all of Harpers Ferry, and Ray (Diane) Conway of Polk City, IA; and 3 sisters, Mary (John) O'Neill of Harpers Ferry, Ellen (Bob) Zwirlein of Monona, IA, and Rosalie (Don) Ripperger of Lacona, IA, a sister-in-law, Penny (Leo) Conway of Big Rock, IL, and his mother-in-law, Irene Koenig, of Castalia.

Pat was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church in Postville and the American Legion.

Casket bearers were James, Daniel, Hugh, Michael, John and Ray Conway and Reid, Gale and Lon Koenig.

Honorary casket bearers were Pat's sisters and their husbands, his sisters-in-laws and Dennis and Donna Blumhagen.
