Dora E Bender, Decorah, died Wednesday, July 30 at Winneshiek Memorial Hospital. She was 90.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 2 at 2 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church with isitation from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church. The Rev. Gerhard Brase conducted the service and organist Connie Bolson accompanied Renee and Delvin Sommerlot in a duet.
Burial was at Locust Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Charles Hexom, Roger Bjerke, Kenneth Moen, Donald Blegen, Herbert Heffern, and Dean Bender. Steine’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Dora (Brandt) Bender was born Oct. 5, 1889 in Decorah to Henry and Mary (Russell) Brandt. She attended rural schools of Winneshiek County and was married June 25, 1908 in Decorah to Adam Bender. He died in 1958. She lived in the Decorah area all her life. She was a member of the Ladies’ Aid and Hannah Circle, ALCW.
Survivors include four children: Mrs. Frankie (Bessie) Barth, Virgil Bender, Walter Bender and Mrs. Raymond (Myrtle) Barth, all of Decorah. She is also survived by four sisters, Mrs. Jennie Johnson, Mrs. Jeanette Holkesvick, Mrs.Addie Quandahl, all of Decorah and Mrs. Lydia Severtsgaard of Waterloo: 11 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, one brother and one sister.
