Rites Held For Rev. Wm. Meinen
The Rev. Wm. Meinen, pastor of Zion Lutheran church in Castalia since November 11, 1958, died suddenly of a heart attack June 14 at his home in Castalia. Rev. Meinen was 56 years old.
Funeral services were conducted at Castalia last Wednesday afternoon by Dr. Herman Siefkes, president of the Iowa district of the American Lutheran church.
Funeral services were also conducted at Hull on Thursday in St. Paul's Lutheran church by the Rev. Paul Kenyon. Interment was in the church cemetery at Hull.
William Meinen was born May 16, 1903, at Damsum, Germany, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Meinen. He spent the early years of his life in Germany, migrating to the United States in 1925. He attended Wartburg college and Dubuque seminary, and was ordained into the ministry on June 7, 1931, at Massbach, Illinois. He served pastorates at Hull and Sabula before taking over as pastor of Zion Lutheran church in Castalia.
On June 9, 1931, he was married to Bertha Hafermann at Royal, Illinois. She preceded him in death. He was married a second time on April 6, 1956, to Elisabeth Domres at McLaughlin, South Dakota.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons and four daughters -- Paul of El Paso, Texas; Ernest of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Mrs. Leonard Schmitt of Sioux City, Mrs. Donald Sohl of Minneapolis, Mrs. James Moos of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, Miss Priscilla Meinen of Davenport. Also surviving are three step children and eight grandchildren.
