Walter R. Ruffridge, 84, 704 W. Main St., Decorah, died Monday, May 5 at his home.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 8 at 2 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Gerhard Brase officiating. An Odd Fellows service was held at Steine’s Funeral Home on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. Mrs. Ransome Bolson was organist at the funeral service and Mary Broghammer was soloist.

Burial was at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Ronald Moen, Duwayne Rude, Earl Knoke, Palmer Ruffridge, Merle Johnson and Vernon Vick.

Mr. Ruffridge was born Sept. 23, 1895 in Winneshiek County to George and Hattie Ruffridge. He attended rural schools and served in World War I. He was married to Agnes Bergan on Jan. 7, 1967 in Caledonia, Minn. They always lived in the Decorah area and he worked as a retail feeds salesman. He was a member of the Oddfellows Lodge in Decorah.

He is survived by his wife Agnes; two children, Galin of Decorah and Marian Storlie of Spring Grove, Minn.; and two step-sons, Moran Broghammer and Marcellus Broghammer, both of Decorah.

Other survivors include a brother, Arlin of Decorah; three sisters, Gladys Knoke, Decorah; Ruby Johnson, Caledonia and Palmer Ruffridge, Postville; five grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three daughters and one son.
