Cecilia Elizabeth Schissel, 81, formerly of Ossian, died Jan. 20, 1990, at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah where she had resided the past four years.
Funeral services were Jan. 23, 1990, at 11 a. m. at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church, with the Rev. Marvin C Salz officiating.
Pallbearers are her grandchildren, Brian, Kay, Jane and Mark Schissel, Jacque Schissel Hahn and Rob Hahn.
Burial was at St. Francis De Sales Cemetery, with Schmitz Funeral Home in Ossian handling the arrangements,
Cecilia Schissel was born June 25, 1908, in rural Ossian, the daughter of Petra and Margaret (Bodensteiner) Timp. She was baptized and confirmed in her faith at St Francis De Sales Catholic Church, and also attended St. Francis De Sales School.
She married Ludwig Joseph Schissel on April 2, 1929, at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church, with the Rt. Rev, Msgr. M.J. Thiltgen officiating. To this union three sons and one daughter were born. The Schissels farmed north of Ossian for 27 years, moving to Ossian in 1956. They owned and operated Schissel Produce until retiring in 1968; she was a life-time member of St. Francis De Sales Parish and the Rosary Society.
She is survived by three sons, LaVern Schissel and his wife Anita of Mabel, Minn., Larry Schissel and his wife Kathy. of Plymouth, Minn., and Duane Schissel and his wife Sharon of Sturgis, Mich.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Henry (Hildegard) Beckman of Ossian.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Ludwig on March 5, 1972; one daughter, Arlene in infancy; five brothers, Theodore, Joseph, Leo, Arnold and Phillip Timp; and two sisters, Mrs. John (Agnes) Hanken and Mrs. Christine Moellers
