Funeral services for Ludwig Schissel, 70, retired Ossian farmer and businessman, were held Wednesday, March 8 at St. Francis De Sales; church in Ossian. Mr. Schissel died March 5 at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital following a short illness. He had farmed near Ossian and from 1956 to 1969 he owned and operated Schissel's Produce in Ossian. He also served several terms on the Ossian Town council.

Monsignor V. J. Peters conducted the service; Pallbearers were Evroul Beekman, Cyril Hanken, Donald Hanken, Sylvester Moellers, Dale Schissel and Leonard Triska Burial was in De Sales Church Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Schmitz Funeral Home of Ossian.

Mr. Schissel is survived by his wife, the former Cecilia Timp, three sons, LaVern Schissel of Mabel, Minn., Larry Schissel of Cedar Rapids, Ia. Duane Schissel of Des Moines, Ia.; six grandchildren, and two brothers; John Schissel, Decorah and Ed Schissel of Ridgeway.

A lifelong resident of the area, Mr. Schissel was born September 24, 1901 in Ossian, the son of Joseph and Stephania Funke Schissel. He was married April 2, 1929 in Ossian and; was a member of St. Francis De Sales church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, who died in infancy.
