Born 1957 - Died 1974Funeral services for Rodney D. Bigler, 17, of Hesper Township were held Tuesday, Nov. 26 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Locust.
Pastor D. D. Thogerson delivered the eulogy before relatives, friends and classmates of Rodney, who was a senior at North Winneshiek School and president of his class. Four bus loads of North Winn students attended the services as well as members of Rodney’s FFA chapter.
Serving as pallbearers were friends of the rural Decorah youth, Kerry Erickson, Steve Gjere, Mark Thogerson, David Stoskopf, Mark Stoskopf and Randy McConnell. Mrs. D. D. Thogerson was organist, and Mrs. W. D. Willer was soloist. Funeral arrangements were made by Steine Funeral Home.
Rodney died Sunday afternoon at a Rochester, Minn. Hospital of injuries received Friday in the collision of the motorcycle he was driving and a passenger car on the North Winneshiek road.
The popular North Winn student had lived all his life in Winneshiek County. He was born August 1, 1957 in Decorah to Roger and Evelyn Bigler. Besides his school activities, he was an officer in FFA, a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and president of the Hi League, a church youth group.
He is survived by his parents; a brother, Robert Bigler, at home; two sisters, Mrs. Peter (Rhonda) Olsgard of Decorah and Roxanne, also at home, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Thorson of Burr Oak and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Bigler of Decorah.
