Rev. Ephriam Adams, founder of Decorah's Congregational church, and a member of the original “Iowa Band” of eleven ministers who came to this state in an early day as missionaries and established the first Congregational churches throughout the state, died on Saturday at Waterloo Iowa, where he has been living for a number of years.

He was born in New Ipswich, N. H., Feb. 5, 1818, and was one of the famous "Iowa Band" who left Andover, Massachusetts seminary in 1837. There is now only one living member of this band—Rev. William Salter of Burlington. Sixty years ago he became pastor of the Congregational church in this city, being the first evangelical minister to come to Decorah. He left here 37 years ago, and was missionary superintendent of the Congregational church in Iowa for a number of years and a trustee of the Congregational college at Grinnell since its organization. He was an uncle to Mrs. N. H. Adams of this city, and was a guest at her home not long since.

Rev. Adams' wife, Elizabeth, died two years ago, one month before their sixtieth wedding anniversary, and is buried in Phelps cemetery here. One son, Henry C. Adams, was for some time professor of political economy at Ann Arbor and is now m charge of the technical work of the interstate commerce commission. The other son, Ephriam, is a professor in Leland Stanford University, of California.

Funeral services were held at Waterloo yesterday afternoon, attended by a number of Congregational ministers. The remains will brought to Decorah today and brief services held at the Congregational church at 2:30 p. m., after which interment will be in Phelps cemetery, beside the remains of his wife. .
