Lester Bigler
Born June 2, 1902 - Died April 28, 1981

Lester C. Bigler, a Pleasant Township farmer, died Tuesday, April 28 at Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse. He was 78.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 1 at 2 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church. The Rev. Gerhard Brase conducted the service and organist Diane Lundtvedt accompanied the soloist, Mrs. Arlin Fisher.

Burial was in the St. John’s cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Gordon Ellingson of Waukon, Rodney Houck, Timothy Sersland, Ronald Bigler, Dennis Bigler and David Bigler. Steine’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Lester Bigler was born June 2, 1902 in Clayton County to Ernest and Elizabeth (Shroeder) Bigler. He attended rural schools of Clayton and Winneshiek Counties and was married to Myrtle C. Ellingson on June 17, 1931 in the Ellingson home. He always lived and farmed in Winneshiek County. He was a member of St. John’s Church and a former member of the church council.

He is survived by his wife; six children, Lorraine (Mrs. Harvey Houck), Decorah; Evelyn (Mrs. David Sersland) Decorah; Muriel (Mrs. David ), Merced, Calif.; Kathyrn (Mrs. Douglas Berg), Bismarck, N.D.; Lois (Mrs. Noren Smith), Calmar and Steven Bigler of Caruthersville, Mo.; 14 grandchildren and two brothers, Elmer and Walter of Decorah.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.
