Chester Ruffridge 1903 – 1963
(Note: newspaper wedding date conflicts with Helen obit)Chester M. Ruffridge, 59, died of TB at Oakdale, Iowa, June 13. The Cedar Rapids man was employed at Iowa Steel Co.
Survivors include two step-children, Mr. Donald Hughes of Long Beach, Calif., and Carlyle Gahwiller of Charles City.
Also surviving are three brothers, Frank, Walter and Arlin, all of Decorah; and three sisters, Mrs. Ernest (Gladys) Knoke of Decorah, Mrs. Ruby Johnson of Caledonia, and Viola Ruffridge of Decorah, and five step-grandchildren.
His wife, the former Miss Helen Johnson Gahwiller, whom he married Oct. 4, 1939, died Aug. 28, 1959. Also preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers.
Mr. Ruffridge was born Oct. 14, 1903, at Locust. He attended rural schools and was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He left Decorah about 20 years ago to work in Cedar Rapids.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 15, at St. John’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. W. A. Larson conducting the last rites.
Burial was in Locust Cemetery. Steine Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Curtis Ruffridge, Palmer Ruffridge, Earl Knoke, Robert Ruffridge, Merle Johnson and Richard Ruffridge.
Janmarie Moen was organist, and Mr. and Mrs. Erlin Stoskopf sang. Mrs. Earl Knoke and Janmarie Moen were on the flower committee.
