(Note: Newspaper uses name Ellen)Funeral services for Mrs. Chester Ruffridge, 62, of Cedar Rapids, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Hauge Lutheran Church. Mrs. Ruffridge died Friday evening at Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids.
Burial was in St. John’s Cemetery. The Rev. Glenn I. Vanderbilt officiated, with the Steine Funeral Home in charge.
Pallbearers were Orville Ruffridge, Galen Ruffridge, Curtis Ruffridge, Verl Stoskopf, Milton Iverson and Curtis Haugen.
Organist was Mrs. Glenn I. Vanderbilt. Soloist was Mrs. Arlin Fisher. On the floral committee were Mmes. Howard Rude, Verl Stoskopf, Orville Ruffridge and Milton Iverson.
Her maiden name was Ellen Johnson. She was born April 5, 1897, in Canoe Township, the daughter of the late George and Anna Johnson.
She attended rural schools and Valders Bussiness College. On Oct. 5, 1939, she was married in Decorah to Chester Ruffridge and lived the last 20 years in Cedar Rapids. She was a member of the Lutheran Church.
Suvivors include her husband, a son, Carlyle Gahwiller, Charles City; and a daughter, Mrs. Donald Huhes, Long Beach, Calif.
Also surviving are two brothers, Henry Johnson, Canoe Township; and Oliver Johnson, Canoe Township. In addition, five sisters survive, Mrs. Albert (Gladys) Haugen, Long Beach Calif.; Sylvia Mathys, Canoe Township; Mrs. John (Josephine) Schneider, Charles City; Mrs. Raymond (Amanda) Thoman, Cresco; and Mrs. Alfred (Emma) Simenson, Locust. Five grandchildren also survive.
Her parents and one brother preceded her in death.
