Emma Matter
Born Nov. 3, 1886 Died Feb. 7, 1971Funeral services for Mrs. John (Emma) Matter, 84 of 305 Iowa Ave, Decorah, were held Wednesday, Feb. 10 at the Decorah Lutheran Church with burial in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery at Locust.
Mrs. Matter died Sunday, Feb. 7 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital. She was a life-long resident of the County and Decorah, moving to Decorah in 1953.
Pastor Alden H. Hovda conducted the funeral rites. Arrangements were made by the Steine Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Leonard Lansing, Richard Matter, David Matter, John Matter, Gerald Harvey and Charles Sensor.
Alan Sensor was the organist and accompanied the soloist, Mrs. Dale Foltz.
Mrs. Matter, the former Emma Mae Stoskopf, was born Nov. 3, 1886 in Pleasant Township where she attended rural schools. Her parents were Samuel and Mary Stoskopf.
She was married March 22, 1905 to John Matter. The marriage was performed at the Stoskopf home. Mr. Matter died April 8, 1964.
Mrs. Matter is survived by 10 children: Mrs. John (Florence) Lansing, Mason City, Walter Matter, Spring, Tex., Mrs. Hattie Keefe, Decorah, Elmer Matter, Postville, Roger Matter, Leonard Matter, Mrs. Milo (Alma) Harvey and Mrs. Willard (Margaret) Sorenson, all of Decorah, Mrs. Galen (Ethel) Sensor, Cary, ILL., and Mrs. Spencer (Bernice) Landswerk, Maple Plain, Minn.
Other survivors are 25 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, a great great grandchild, and two sisters, Mrs. Ed Matter and Mrs. Luella Stortz, both of Decorah.
She was preceded in death by a son, Willard Matter, her parents, her husband and a sister.
Mrs. Matter was a member of Decorah Lutheran Church.
