Leonard Feuerhelm, 82, of Waukon, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon following a lenghly illness.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 11 at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon with Rev. Lynn G. Groe and Rev. David E. Schafer officiating.

Casketbearers Charles Bulman, Ed Lauerman, Mayhew Eaton, Edison Lenth, Horace Magnuson and Walter Larson.

Honorary Casketbearers were Harold Halverson, Leland Meyer, LeRoy McCabe, A.V. Palmer, Dr. Frank Norden and Everett Ellefson.

Burial was at Oakland Cemetery in Waukon. Martin Funeral Home of Waukon handled the arrangements.

Leonard C. Feuerhelm was born June 3, 1918 in Lansing, the son of Arthur and Elle (Styir)Feurerhelm. He was baptized at the Mays Prairie Church on August 10, 1919 and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran on May 25, 1941.

He attended grade school District No. 5 in Ludlw Township, the Waukon High School, and Wakon Jr. College.

On June 25, 1939 he married Margaret Loven at Glenwood Lutheran Church in rural Decorah. In 1943 he attended the Vocational Training School in Minneapolis and was then employed at Toro Mfg. Co. as a foreman in defense work during World War II. He owned and operated the Feuerhelm Iron Shop in Waukon from 1945 until his retirement in 1988.

Leonard Feuerhelm was an avid sportsman, enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf. He was an active member of the Allamakee Co. Sportsman Club, Ducks Unlimited, and thw Waukon Golf Club. He also enjoyed caring for his flower garden and cooking.

Leonard and Margaret Feuerhelm traveled extensively during their marriage, taking trips to several other countries.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where he had served as an usher and preisident of the church council.

Surviving Leonard Feuerhelm are his wife of 61 years, Margaret Feuerhelm, daughter Karen and Harlan Thompson of West Des Moines, and four grandchildren: Christine and Kenneth Brown of Lexington, Ky,; Shari and James Sheahan of De Forest, Wisc,; Bryan Thompson of Hong Kong and Kathy Thompson of Wisconsin Dells, Wisc.

Additional survivors include two sisters-in-law, Edith Feuerhelm of Postville and Sylva Feuerhelm of Waterloo.

Leonard C. Feuerhelm was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Charles and Kermit Feuerhelm.
