Siegfried Weiss was born in Prevorst. KR. Heilbronn. West Germany on October 6. 1951, the fifth child of Immanuel and Johanna Weiss, their first born after World War II. He was baptized on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Prevorst Lutheran Church in November of that year. He left there with his family aboard the S. S. General Harry Taylor on April 17, 1952. Arriving in New York City on April 27 that same year. Sieg and the family arrived by train in Eagle Grove, Iowa, three days later. Less than one year old, and already Sieg had had more travel adventure than many people have in a lifetime.

A short time later that year. Sieg began his farming career when the Weiss family moved from Eagle Grove to a farm in Humbolt. Iowa. He began his elementary education in Cylinder, Iowa, and completed it at a country school in Winneshiek County. He was graduated from Decorah High School In 1969. Two years later Sieg was graduated from the Northeast Iowa Area 1 Vocational-Technical School's farm implement mechanics program. After serving in the United States Army Reserve and working for Case Power & Equipment, he settled into farming full-time.

Farming was his vocation, but camping and fishing were his true great loves. He visited Crane and Lilac Lakes In the boundary waters of Canada at least yearly with friends and family. Sieg enjoyed reliving with them the various adventures they had enjoyed there. One regret Sieg often mentioned was his being unable to visit that area with Seth and Katie so he could share that beauty and those wonderful adventures with them. His love and enjoyment of that area was only exceeded by his wish to live life to its fullest with his family and friends.

During Sieg's eight-year struggle with cancer, it was that love of life, family, and friends that sustained him, and gave him his strength. That love has been returned tenfold and helped him confront and battle the disease on his own terms. Sieg fought this angry adversary with dignity, courage, and humor. Even though the cancer would eventually take his physical life, it could not defeat or overwhelm his spirit. It is the memory of that indomitable spirit that will continue to live on in all of us.

Sieg is survived by his parents. Immanuel and Johanna (Henkes) Weiss of Decorah; his son, Seth Garrett Weiss of Bluffton. Iowa; two brothers. Erich (Mary) Weiss. Decorah and Arnold (Julie) Weiss. Decorah; and four sisters. Cheri Dearborn (Fred), Moline, Illinois. Hilma Sanders (Gary). Broken Arrow. Oklahoma. Gerda Luhman (Roy). Graettinger. Iowa and Gerlyn Koehler (John). Peru. Illinois. He also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, many relatives still living in Germany as well as the many friends and people whose lives he touched.
