Lois Irene Flatland was born in Austin, Minnesota on May 19, 1926, the second daughter of Alfred Simonson & Emma (Johnson) Simonson.
She was also baptized in Austin but became a member of Hauge Lutheran Church when the Simonsons moved to rural Decorah in the 1930s. Pastor Carl Losen of Hauge instructed Lois in the Christian faith and she was confirmed at Hauge in 1940. She attended rural school in Canoe Township until she entered Decorah High School.
A highly independent and capable young woman, she worked as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell in Decorah after graduating from high school in 1944. She married Charles Flatland on May 26, 1946 at First Lutheran Church in Decorah.
In 1948, Lois and Chuck moved to California, living first in Redondo Beach and then at Rancho Mirage in the Palm Springs area. While Charles worked in the building industry, Lois worked as a real estate agent until her retirement.
After a period of weakening health, Lois passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 1992 at the age of 66.
She is survived by her husband Charles, Mother, Emma of Decorah, Sister, Ardith Iverson of Dorchester, Iowa, and numerous nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grand nieces.
She was preceded in death by her father, Alfred and younger sister, Delores.
Blessed be the memory of Lois Irene Flatland.
