Irene Orletta Groth was born January 17, 1922, in Winneshiek County, Iowa; the daughter of Gilbert and Luella (Jaastad) Anderson. She was baptized and confirmed at Hauge Lutheran Church, Decorah, Iowa. She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church at Locust, Iowa. On January 5, 1939, she was united in marriage to Gerhard M. Groth. She made her home in Winneshiek Co. with the exception of a few years in Colorado Springs, Colo. and Rochester, Minn. For the past several years she has been employed at Norsk Engros/Vanberia in Decorah.

Irene passed away at her home in Hesper Township on November 18, 1986, after a lengthy illness with cancer.

She is survived by her husband, Gerhard; three daughters, Gretchen (Mrs. Eldon) Greenwaldt of Rochester, Minn, Elaine (Mrs. Richard) Anderson and Rita (Mrs. Vernie) Jump, both of rural Decorah; eight grandchildren, Greg and Stacy Greenwaldt, Joel, Jamie, Tim and Troy Anderson, and Shelly and Christina Jump; and one great grandchild, Kyle Anderson. Also surviving are seven sisters, Loretta (Mrs. Marcelline) Phillips, Clara (Mrs. Leon) Williams, and Frances (Mrs. Emil) Frana of Decorah, Almeda (Mrs. Robert) Grindeland of Houston, Texas, Pauline (Mrs. Kenneth) Keune of Fort Atkinson, Beverly (Mrs. Carsten) of Waterloo, and Kathryn (Mrs. Elden) Holten of Cedar Rapids; and three brothers, Gordon of Decorah, Donald of Cedar Rapids, and Herman of Calmar.

She was preceded in death by her parents
