Funeral services for Marilyn Werger, age 79, of Garnavillo, Iowa, were held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Garnavillo, Iowa with Rev. Wayne Ellingson officiating. Burial was in the Garnavillo Community Cemetery in Garnavillo, Iowa. Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Service assisted the family with the arrangements.

Marilyn was the daughter of Chester and Edna (Roney) Green on October 18, 1932 on the Green family farm in Bloomfield Township in Winneshiek County, near Castalia, Iowa. She graduated from the Postville High School in 1950 and on March 9, 1952 she married her high school sweetheart, Deane Werger. They were blessed with four children. Over the years Marilyn was a 4-H leader. She enjoyed judging 4-H Achievement Shows. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she helped with junior church choir. She was also a member of the Ladies Aide and LCW. Her passions were sewing, quilting, and gardening. She was employed at the Buttery in Elkader, Iowa for several years, but most of her life was spent keeping a home, taking care of her children, helping on the farm by participating in every task the farm required. She was an avid reader. She canned many of her garden products and was responsible for remarkable production of farm fresh eggs from her chickens. She enjoyed spending time with all her grandchildren and would attend their sporting events as often as she could. In her later years, Marilyn was accompanied by her kind companion dog Charlie who was always there to be at her side.

Marilyn Werger died Friday, November 4, 2011 at the Guttenberg Care Center in Guttenberg, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Glen Green and Roger Green and one grandchild, Matthew James Werger who died in infancy.

Marilyn is survived by her husband of 59 years, Deane Werger; 4 children, Alan (Cathy) Werger of Monona, Iowa, Gary Werger of Keota, Iowa, Diane (Dave) Fox of Port Orange, Florida, and Kim (Linda) Werger of Elkader, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Artis (Jack) Dibble.
