Callista (Cal) Susan Wallmark, 104, Ossian, Iowa, died Saturday, June 11, 2011, at Ossian Senior Hospice, Ossian, Iowa. Callista was born on October 21, 1906, in Remsen, Iowa, to Frank and Margaret (Homan) Groff. She graduated from St. Mary Catholic High School in Remsen, Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and attended Clark College in Dubuque, Iowa.

Callista taught country school for six years and was then united in marriage to Clifford Frederick Wallmark on June 15, 1932, in Remsen. They were the proud parents of three daughters. Callista and Clifford owned and operated the Wallmark Pharmacy in Ossian, for over twenty-five years. During this time Callista managed a gift and cosmetic department within the store and offered a wide selection of wallpaper and paint for the public. She was an active member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Rosary Society and Catholic Daughters of America, serving as Grand Region from 1947-1948. Her membership with the Catholic Daughters of America spanned for over seventy years. She was also a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.

Survivors include her three daughters, Janet Hemesath, Ossian, Sheryl (Charles) Blanford, Sterling, IL, Kathryn Ann Meyer, Ossian; one sister-in-law, Jean Groff, Des Moines; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Callista was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clifford Wallmark, on May 22, 1970; son-in-law, Herb Meyer; 3 brothers, Clarence, Roman and Frank C. Groff and great-great-granddaughter, Blaiksley Rose Sheppard.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Ossian, Iowa. Monsignor Cletus Hawes will be the celebrant.

Burial will follow in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 13, 2011, from 4-8 p.m. with a Catholic Daughters Rosary at 4 p.m. and a Scripture Service at 5:30 pm at the Schmitz Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Ossian, Iowa.
