Clarice Snitker

Clarice I. Snitker, 92, of Mabel, Minn., formerly of Waukon and Decorah, Iowa, died Sunday, June 30, 2002 at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah, following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 3, at 11 a.m. at Glenwood Lutheran Church in rural Decorah, with Pastor Susan Debner officiating. Burial will be at the Glenwood East Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon and for one hour at the church before services on Wednesday.

Clarice Idella Sivesind was born November 28, 1909, on the rural Waukon, Iowa, farm of her parents, Ingeman and Caroline (Nash) Sivesind. She was baptized and confirmed at Glenwood Lutheran Church and attended the rural Helming School. Following her mother's death, Clarice worked at home on the farm tending to the house and caring for her father and three brothers.

On January 16, 1933, she married Leo Snitker at Salem United Church of Christ in rural Waukon. They were later divorced.

Clarice spent her married life as a farm wife and homemaker. Later, she worked until her retirement as a Nurse's Aid at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah. The past three years she has been a resident of GreenLea Manor in Mabel, Minn.

Clarice was a long-time member of Glenwood Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid and circles. She led an active faith life and routinely practiced daily devotions. She was an avid reader, liked to garden, quilt, and crochet, enjoyed puzzle books, traveling, and loved spending time with her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, John, Casper, and Milton Sivesind.

Survivors include a son, Charles Snitker of Decorah; a daughter, Lorraine (Aldin) Fiksdal of Rochester, Minn.; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Leona Duvel of Waukon; and several nieces and nephews. Casket bearers are Frank and Gene Sivesind, Bernard, Calvin and Nate Snitker, David Terbeest, and Dale Hesse.
