Mrs. W. Haefner Passes On Friday

Mrs. W. H. Haefner, 74, a resident of Castalia for the past 45 years, passed away last Friday night in Minneapolis, Minn., where she had gone on a visit in the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Thies.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock in the Evangelical United Brethren church in Castalia with the Rev. Wayne Hargrave officiating. Interment was in Bloomfield cemetery west of Castalia.

Mrs. Haefner was born at Froelich as Etta Elizabeth Bickel, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Bickel, March 29, 1873, and grew to womanhood in that community.

She was married to W. H. Haefner January 31, 1899, and to this union six children were born, all of whom survive.

Mrs. Haefner was a member of the Methodist church and of the Ossian Eastern Star.

She is survived by her husband, six children, Earl Haefner of Dayton, Ohio, Ralph Haefner of Chicago, Ill., John Haefner of Marshalltown, Martha, Mrs. Lewis Nelson, of Sioux Falls, So. Dak., Marie, Mrs. Leonard Anderson of Cedar Rapids, and Chloe, Mrs. Earl Thies of Minneapolis, Minn.; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers and one sister.
