Oivind Hovde, head librarian at Luther college in Decorah, Iowa from 1949 to 1977, died of cancer Sunday, June 8, 1986 in the Decorah Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital. Hovde, age 74, was born September 10, 1911. He served as the head librarian at Luther longer than anyone else. With architect Donald Gray, he helped design Luther's Preus Library which opened in 1969.
