Funeral services were held Monday, July 6 for Henry George Suckow, age 82, who died Wednesday July 1, 1987 at the Northgate Care Center in Waukon, Iowa. The Rev. Julius L. Peterson officiated at the 1:30 p.m. services held at Schutte funeral Home in Postville, Iowa. Burial was in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Castalia, Iowa. Casket bearers were Ernest Helgerson, Myron Ihde, Raymond Suckow, Karl Rae Suckow, Ralph Suckow and Terry McNally.

Henry was born March 31, 1905 in Winneshiek County near Postville, Iowa to Fred and Sophia (Schave) Suckow. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Maynard, Iowa and attended rural schools near Maynard. On July 2, 1934 he married Bernita Mabb at Nashua, Iowa. They began farming near West Union, Iowa and soon after moved to the home farm near Castalia, Iowa. In 1960 they moved to Postville, Iowa. He was employed by Earl Ruckdaschel trucking and later as night watchman for Hygrade Meat Packing Company in Postville, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, four brothers, one in infancy, Alphie Suckow, Charles Suckow, and Lester Suckow; and a sister, Mrs. Merlin (Esther) Bochman.

Surviving are a son Kenneth Suckow of Castalia, Iowa and a daughter, Mrs. Leighton (Linda) Smith of Postville, Iowa; 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Otto Suckow of Waterloo, Iowa and Helmuth Suckow of Oelwein, Iowa and 3 sisters, Viola Ihde of Monona, Iowa, Mrs. Henry (Ruth) Helgerson of Postville, Iowa and Ruby Mabb of West Union, Iowa.
