Carman A. Hanson, Sr., age 76, of Decorah, Iowa died Tuesday, November 26, 1985 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital, Decorah, Iowa. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 30 at 11 a.m. at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church, conducted by Pastor Landis Olson. Sensor-French Funeral Home in Decorah was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Canoe Ridge Cemetery. Pallbearers were Roger Hanson, Jr., Brian Hanson, Donald Hanson Jr., Craig Hanson, Wade Hanson and Bruce Hanson.

Carman, a retired farmer, was born in Winneshiek County, Iowa on October 30, 1909, a son of Clarence and Mathilda (Christopherson) Engen Hanson. He attended rural schools. He married Clarice Teslow on April 4, 1932. Hanson was a member of Canoe Ridge Church where he served as president and on the council.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mrs. Marvel Dalsass.

Survivors include his wife; 6 sons, Carman Hanson, Jr., Roger Hanson and Lyle Hanson of Decorah, Iowa, and Robert Hanson, Donald Hanson, and Paul Hanson of Waukon, Iowa; a daughter, Sharon Tomczak of Madison, Wisconsin; 24 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; a brother, Alton Hanson of Kalispell, Montana and 3 sisters, Mrs. Afton French of Searcy, Arkansas, Mrs. Vivian Fry of Madison, Wisconsin and Mrs. Cora Disney of Fairfield, California.
