Howard Henningsgaard

Howard A. Henningsgaard, 73 of Mabel, died unexpectedly Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007, at his home.

He was born Jan. 6, 1934, in Winneshiek County, Iowa, to Arnold and Bernice (Allen) Henningsgaard. He graduated from Mabel High School in 1953 and then moved to Minneapolis shortly thereafter.

On Feb. 5, 1954, he was united in marriage to Doris Sylling in Spring Grove. They later divorced. He worked for Bambi Bread and Appleton Electric while living in Minneapolis.

In 1990 he moved to Mabel and was tour guide for R&M Amish Tours in Harmony. He enjoyed telling stories, history, traveling, photography, and reading. He was a member of the Toastmasters and the Civil Air Patrol.

Henningsgaard is survived by three children, Debbie (Lowell) Thomas of Plymouth, Minn., Jeff of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and Sue (Pat) Gleason of Champlin, Minn.; and six grandchildren, Ryan, Nick, Meghan, Angela, Adam and Hanna.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services were Wednesday at the Mabel First Lutheran Church in Mabel, with the Rev. Curtis Fox officiating. Burial was in the Hesper Lutheran Cemetery in Hesper, Iowa.

The Mengis Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
