Final Rites Held For Herbert Stee

Final rites for Herbert (Hub) Oliver Stee, 70, were held Friday, Aug. 6, 1971, at 2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran church, Castalia, with Rev. Arthur J. Tolo officiating. He died Wednesday, Aug. 4, at the Postville Good Samaritan Home.

Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery, Castalia, with military rites conducted by the Brockman-Hammersland American Legion Post 503, Ossian, of which he was a member.

He was born May 12, 1901, near Ossian the son of Melvin and Ellen Hegland Stee. He was baptized at the Stavanger Lutheran church near Ossian and confirmed at the same church Oct. 10, 1915. He attended rural schools of Bloomfield township. He served in the army from July 17, 1942 until March 2, 1943. He spent his entire life in the Castalia and Ossian areas working the last several years in Castalia.

He had been in ill health the last five years. He suffered a stroke in 1970 and entered the Decorah Retirement Center. In January of 1971 he was transferred to Postville.

Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Edwin (Anna) Engelhardt, Castalia, two brothers, Harlan, Castalia and Morton, Decorah, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Clifford and Merle. He was never married.
