Sarah Louise Stee
Sarah Louise Stee, daughter of John and Gillie (Crook) Chambers, was born Aug. 20, 1907 in Roanoke, Va. She died Thursday, Feb. 10, 1994 in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville. She was 86.
She was baptized as an infant in Virginia, and was confirmed March 23, 1937 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia, where she was presently a member. She graduated from high school in Octavia, Neb. and attended a summer term at a teacher's college. She taught school at Octavia until the time of her marriage. On Dec. 22, 1929, Sarah married Merle Edwin Stee at Octavia, Neb. They moved to Iowa in 1931. Sarah had lived in Castalia until March of 1993, when she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center, Postville. She was an excellent seamstress, using the old treadle sewing machine, and had been sewing up until just a few weeks ago.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Merle, who died in 1968; four brothers, Coy, John, William and Michael Chambers; four sisters, Ellice Johannes, Clara Graybill, Desra Wilson and Mary Hartley; and a grandson, David Lee.
Surviving are a son, Merle Stee, Jr. and his wife Bonnie of Castalia, two daughters, Zonna Wullner and her husband William of Postville and Mary Lee of Terre Haute, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Alvira Sandy of Carthage, Mo.; sisters-in-law Ida (Coy) Chambers of Kingsport, Tenn., Pauline (Wm. Chambers) Kopke of Rising City, Neb., Anna Engelhardt and her husband Edwin, and Hazel Maythel (Morton) Stee; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 13, 1994 in the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia, the Rev. H. W. Wolfgram officiating. Special music was provided by Ronald Meyer, accompanied by Marlys Hager, organist. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Pleasant View Cemetery. Casket bearers were Brian Wullner, James Stee, Jeff Stee, Darren Lee, Darwin Johnson, Stan Schultz and Ed Bean.
