Contributor: Connie Ellis (not related)Funeral services were held Saturday, February 6 at 11 a.m. at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls,, Minnesota for William "Bill" Hahn, age 43, who died Wednesday, February 3, 1988 at United Hospital in Grand Forks, Nebraska from injuries received in a snowmobile accident on January 30. Father Stan Bourassa officiated at the services with burial in the church cemetery. Belmont Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Llewellyn "Gubby" Lane, Mark Stenseth, Gary Reed, Bruce Seaverson, Bryce Adamson, and Dennis Kezar.
Bill was born October 6, 1944 in Calmar, Iowa to Maurice and Catherine (Lloyd) Hahn. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Aloysius Catholic Church and attended St. Aloysius elementary school. He graduated in 1962 from South Winneshiek High School and moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. On September 10, 1966 he married Barbara Osvald in Independence, Iowa. In 1969 they moved from Cedar Rapids to Omaha, Nebraska and in 1972 they moved to Thief River Falls where he began working for Arctic Enterprises. He played an integral part in the formation of the present Arctco, serving as vice-president of purchasing.
An avid outdoorsman, he was a member of the Fourtown Snowmobile Club, the Thief River Falls Curling Club, enjoyed hunting and fishing and working with automobiles. It was because of his eagerness to help others in need that his family decided to donate his organs for transplantation.
He was preceded in death by his father Maurice.
He is survived by his wife, a daughter Jacki of Wahpeton, North Dakota, a son Jim at home, his mother, Catherine of Calmar, Iowa; a brother Jim of Fort Worth, Texas, 2 sisters, Mrs. Richard (Shirley) Elliott of Waukon, Iowa, and Mrs. Don (Mary) Lynch of Oklahoma; 2 nieces and 3 nephews.
