Funeral services for Mayme Wise, age 102, Decorah, Iowa area teacher, were held Wednesday February 24 at 11 a.m. at Congregational United Church of Christ in Decorah. Mayme died February 21, 1988. Pastor Kristen Kvamme conducted the services. Fjelstul Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Phelps cemetery in Decorah, Iowa. Casket bearers were Franklin H. Beard, James P. Beard, Kenneth Elsbernd, John Harris, Walter W. Jewell, Jr. and David W. Wise. Honorary pallbearers are William E. Beard, Jr., Abner Hendrickson, Ned Thompson, and Alvin S. Renaas.

Mayme was born November 26, 1885 in Pleasant Township to Samuel and Catherine (Beard) Wise, Jr. She graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa in 1912. She taught school in Waukon, Iowa after graduation. She later taught school in Jefferson, and was also a junior high principal there for 20 years. She returned to Decorah in 1938. She was an active member of Congregational Church of Christ for 75 years and a member and past president of P.E.O in Decorah.

Preceding her in death were her parents and 14 brothers and sisters. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
