Irene H. Folkedahl, age 74, of Decorah, Iowa died Saturday, May 21 at her home. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 24 at 11 a.m. at Decorah Lutheran Church with Pastors John V. Halvorson and Owen Gangstead officiating. Burial was in the Union Prairie Cemetery with Fjelstul Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Alert and Forrest Folkedahl, Cliffor, Gene and Wayne Knudtson, and Nathan Thorson. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Cherry, Todd Farland, David and Patrick Folkedahl, Jerry and Robin Gossman, and Michael, Steven, and Terry Kubik.

Irene was born December 8, 1913 in Pleasant Township of Winneshiek County to Oscar and Amanda (Fadness) Severide. She attended rural Winneshiek County schools and was baptized and confirmed at Big Canoe Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, Iowa. On February 15, 1933 she married Norton Meyer Folkedahl at the Lutheran parsonage in Decorah. Norton died in January of 1980. In 1944 she became a member of Decorah Lutheran church where she was active in the Mary circle and the ALCW. She also helped with the Retired Senior Volunteer program.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son Dale Folkedahl, a grandson Russell, two brothers and a sister.

Surviving are eight children, Dennis Folkedahl and Vincent Folkedahl, both of Iowa City, Iowa, Nels Folkedahl, Lynne Folkedahl and Arla Kubik, all of Decorah, Lois Lembeke of Saukville, Wisconsin, Colleen Gossman of Mabel, Minnesota, and Sharon Folkedahl of Glendale, Arizona; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Norma Knudtson of Waukon, Iowa.
