Funeral Friday for Corenne Darrington

Mabel, -- The funeral for Corenne Darrington will be 2 p.m. Friday at Hesper Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Donald Peterson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Darrington, 69, of Mabel, a retired First national Bank employee and former city treasurer, died Tuesday (Aug1, 1995) at Tweeten Lutheran Hospice Unit in Spring Grove.

Corenne Wennes was born Jan. 9, 1926, in Winneshiek County, Iowa, attended Locust and Hesper elementary schools and Mabel High School. After graduating in 1943, she worked at Mabel State Bank until 1950. She married Ervin Foltz in 1945, and they owned and operated the Mabel Fairway Food Store from 1950 to 1957. She was employed at First National Bank of Mabel from 1957 until her retirement in 1985. Mr. Foltz died in 1978. In June 1979, she married Frank Darrington. Mrs. Darrington was a member of Hesper Lutheran Church and held a number of church offices. She was also an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary and volunteered at Green Lea Manor Nursing Home. She was treasurer for the city of Mabel for 25 years.

Survivors include her husband: two stepdaughters, Yvonne (Mrs. Jim) Ball and Lori ((Mrs. Bruce) McPherson, a stepson David Darrington; and five step-grandchildren. A brother preceded her in death.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and an hour before the service at the church.
