Myrtle Hovden Nordsving, 83, of Canton, Minnesota died Wednesday, December 28, 1988 at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah, Iowa. Funeral services were held Friday December 30 at 11 a.m. at Henrytown Lutheran Church, rural Canton, Minnesota and at 2 p.m. at Madison Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, Iowa. Pastor Wayne Hagen conducted the services at Henrytown Lutheran and Pastor Phillip Olson and Ginny Olson, associates in ministry, officiated at the Madison Lutheran Church services. Burial was in the Madison Church cemetery with Fjelstul Funeral Home of Decorah, Iowa in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Randy Evenson, Paul Haugen, Carleton Haugen, Dean Nordsving, Michael Haugen, and Deri Nordsving.

Myrtle was born December 26, 1905 in Madison Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa to Martin and Sarah (Skaalia) Haugen. She attended rural Winneshiek County schools. On January 26, 1927 she married Carmen Hovden at Madison Lutheran Church. He died April 9, 1943. On January 10, 1970 she married Adolph Nordsving at Henrytown Lutheran Church. Prior to her marriage to Adolph, she was a cook at the Decorah High School. For the last 19 years, she lived in the Canton area. She was a member of the Lutheran church where she was active in Ladies Aid and church circles.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, seven brothers, a sister, a granddaughter, a grandson, a step-son, and two sons-in-law.

Surviving her are her husband, Adolph, eight children, Carmen Hovden, Marvin Hovden, Mrs. Hubert (Mary) Teslow, and Mrs. David (Sarah) Otteson, all of Decorah, Iowa, Donald Hovden of Burr Oak, Iowa, Mrs. John (Kay) Regan of Waukon, Dorothy Losey of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Mrs. DuWayne (Georgiann) Schweinefus of Ossian, Iowa; a step-daughter,Mrs. Bob (Betty) Evenson of Sac City, Iowa; 41 grandchildren, and 38 great-grandchildren.
